Brief Summary
A younge king named Walter who lived in Italy always refused marriage. One day his loyal nobles and people, whished of him to find a bride and priduce a heir, to rule in his name once he is gone. Walter agrees to his people's request, under one condition. That he gets to pick his wife, and she can be whomever he chooses, and tbe nobles must respect her without any complaints. So the king sets his wedding day, and sets out to find a new bride. His eyes fall upon a shocking women named Griseld, she lived with her poor father Janjcula. He stated that he wished to marry her, but she must first promise her loyalty and obediance to him, and she did. Her father gave Walter permission to marry. Walter and his new peasant wife were living a ljfe of luxury in the palace. Time goes on and they have a daughter, Walter tells Griseld that tbe people are upset, for his daughter is not noble born. He opposed to Griseld that they must kill their child, because thats totally logical. She does not deny Walter and says "your will is mine". Walters sergant cames and takes away his daughter, this is all a test from Walter to stretch his wifes loyalty, and obediance. He sends hus daughter to Bologna to be fostered by his sister. Time passes and they have a son, Walter again insist to his wife, that his people are upset again and they must kill the child. Griseld once again agrees to Walters demands, and his son is secreatly sent to Bologna. Walter has one final test. He counterfiets a bull from the pope stating that he can remarry. He informs Griseld, that he wishes to remarry, and her without question, obeys him and stays obediant. While this is occuring he sends for his children in Bologna. When the new wedding date approches, his children arrive, he asked Griseld what she thought of the children. He then told her that those were her children, and she fainted many times. Walter later revealed it was a test and they remarried and lived happily forever.
